Benefits of Pilates

In 1926, Joseph H. Pilates opened his studio teaching a unique exercise system he called "Contrology." After his death, the technique became known as “The Pilates Method.” He designed an exercise system focused on improving flexibility, strength, and balance for the whole body…without building bulk. Pilates has been embraced by dancers, athletes and the general public for its unique approach, accessibility, and comprehensive, but dramatic, results.

Pilates keeps the client moving continuously during the workout (using minimum repetitions), and flowing from exercise to exercise. The 4 S's of Pilates are: Strength, Stamina, Stretch and Stabilization (balancing the body). The instructor works with the client to strengthen the client's weag the whole body equally. Pilates exercise does not focus on spot training or rehabilitation -- it's a comprehensive workout.

More Pilates Information:

"I have had debilitating back problems all of my adult life. With the practice of Pilates, along with Karen’s coaching, all of my aches and pains are a thing of the past. Karen is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and kind, yet she always knows when to push me so that I’ll reach my full potential. For me, working out at Any Body’s Pilates has been a life changing experience!"

Pilates differentiators:

  • Joseph Pilates designed 500+ specific exercises using five major pieces of unique apparatus to develop the body uniformly
  • Instead of performing many repetitions of each exercise, Pilates preferred fewer, more precise movements, requiring proper control and form
  • The "power house" ("core" -- abdomen, lower back, thighs, hips, and buttocks) is supported and strengthened, enabling the rest of the body to move freely
  • A complete body workout, Pilates uses spring tension and the client’s body weight for muscle strengthening and continuous movement to maintain a constant, elevated heart rate
